Parrots
in Costa Rica!

Mini-Macaws

These  birds...  have  big  personalities,  housed  in  small
packages.   The  Mini-Macaws,  are  an  average  12  to  15
inches  and  are  easier  to  house  and  care  for  than  their
significantly  larger  counterparts,  the  larger  Macaws.

Mini-Macaws...  fed  as  hand  fed  babies,  rival  the  intellect
and  curiosity,  of  the  much  larger  Macaws,  and  are  often
better  "talkers".

The Mini-Macaw... has a great  inquisitiveness and can
be  quite  the  character. The most commonly available
mini's, are the "Yellow Collared", "Severe", "Red-shouldered",
"Hahn's" and "Noble". Other, less common Mini-Macaws, are
the "Red-bellied", "Illiger's" and the exceptionally rare bird,
known as the "Blue Headed" Mini-Macaw.

Mini-Macaw  subspecies...  are  the  'Yellow  Collared',
'Severe',  'Hahn's'  and  the  'Nobles'.   When  taught  to  speak,
at  a  young  age,  they  can  learn  up  to  50  words.   Hand  fed
Mini's,  are  sweet  and  gentle  and  have  cute,  squeaky  little
voices.

Amazon Parrots

Amazon  Parrots... make  terrific pets  for  those  looking
for  a long-term and potentially  life  long  friend.   With  an
average  life span, of greater than 50 years  and often
living  to  well  over 100 years,  Amazon  Parrots  will  bring
a  lifetime of  love  and  joy,  to  your  family.

If  you  value  humor.... and the Amazon's incredible ability
and  inclination,  towards  "speech"   then  the  Amazon, is
the  perfect  choice  for  you!  Amazons are very independent
and  intelligent  creatures.

When  provided  with  an  enriched  environment,  they
remain  capable  of  learning,  throughout  their  entire  life
span.

There  are  approximately  27  species... of  Amazon
parrots, dependant  upon  how   they  are  classified  and
grouped.   Amazons  are  amongst  the  largest  groups,
of  the  parrot  world.  According  to  history, it  is said
that  Amazons  were  given  their  name,  by  Christopher
Columbus,  himself.   He  introduced  the  brightly green
colored, shorter  winged  birds,  to  his  native  Europe
after  his  first  visit,  to  the  "New  World."

Today  Amazons... can be found in the their natural habitat
throughout  South America,  Mexico and the Caribbean side
of  Costa Rica.  While some species exist  in  such  great
numbers,   that  they  are  often  regarded  as  a  nuisance,
in their  native  countries, others  are  very  nearly  extinct.

For  this  reason and  to  protect  these  beautiful  winged
creatures,  in  their  native  environments, international trade.
of  wild  Parrots,  has  been  strictly   prohibited.   However,
most  species  of  Amazon  Parrot  continue  to  very
successfully  be  bred... in  captivity.   Some  of  the
commonly  available  species  of  Amazon  Parrot, are  the
"Yellow  Nape",  "Lilac  Crown"  and  the "Double  Yellow
Head"  Amazons.

  Traits and Care

"Amazons  Rule"  is  the  Amazon  view  point  of  life.
They  make excellent  pets  for  people,  who  enjoy  interaction
with  bold  and  sometimes  irrepressible  personalities.   These
birds...  are unique  creatures, and they  want  you  to  know
it,  and  appreciate  it!   Many companion Amazons, would  be
excellent  candidates  for  the  category  of  "Best  Talker".

If  you  value  the  ability  of  speech  and  strength  of  character,
above the type of bird, that would  crave more human contact
and petting, then you should seriously consider  an Amazon Parrot,
as  your  new companion.  Amazons will remain  tame,  throughout
their  lifetime  provided  that  they  are  trained  and  positively  motivated.
